Lights from the stained glass tower beckon the traveler to the Victorian Inn. Beveled plate glass French doors open from the spacious living room. You are invited to a full breakfast served on fine china and linen with sterling silver and crystal. The dining room with it's Flemish Oak ceiling beams and paneling is crowned by turn of the century Belgium tapestries. Your breakfast experience is upscale, yet very comfortable. One guest from California commented, “How very civilized." The 20 room Victorian Inn was built in 1876. Then enlarged and modernized in 1905 by a Rock Island liquor baron who gave it as a wedding present to his daughter. Two of the six guest rooms have working fireplaces and all have private baths. In total the Inn has 7 fireplaces and 9 baths. There is 3,000 square feet on each floor of the 3 story Victorian Inn. The various rooms offer beds of king, queen, full and twin sizes. Four poster Jenny Lind spool and canopy beds are complimented by 1900’s cranberry glass ceiling light fixture and 1880’s armoire. A chesser, a half dresser-half chest, was originally used in the chauffeur’s quarters. Mother never threw anything away. When we needed an item for one of the rooms, we just looked in the attic and there it was. Purchased by the Parker family in 1944, this is our family home. Original antiques from the family and previous owners of the home adorn the rooms. The inn is a Local Landmark and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Three other structures within sight are on National Register. We are located in the Broadway Historic District here in the heart of Old Rock Island. The Victorian Inn is at a major entrance to the 900 homes that comprise Broadway. Other than Williamsburg. Va., Broadway is the largest Historic District in the United States. Our historic walking tours will guide you past a home that was originally a stage coach stop. As well as homes of oil barons, beer barons, lumber barons, railroad tycoons, and the early 1900’s gangster that gave Rock Island notoriety as, ”Little Chicago”. Located near downtown and it's Art and Entertainment District, we are in walking distance of music festivals on the plaza, professional dinner theatre, riverboat casino and fine dining. The Quad City Area offers a PGA/TPC golf tournament, headliner concerts, jazz festivals, world class 7K and marathon races, three riverboat casinos, a ferryboat between Iowa and Illinois, fine dining, sightseeing cruises, historic trolley rides, walking tours of Old Rock Island, winter Eagle watching, and, of course, the Mighty Mississippi, along of which bike trails abound. The Victorian Inn rests amid nearly 2/3 acre of wooded grounds known as the Eaton Gardens, thus forming a natural habitat for songbirds in the heart of Old Rock Island’s Broadway Historic District. Step back in time to gracious living. Step into the elegance and Old World charm of a bygone golden era. A full breakfast is served in the 36 foot long dining room overlooking wooded gardens where cardinals and black squirrels abound. On a summer’s evening sip a cool glass of pink lemonade at the patio table. Wake in the Fall to a full breakfast by a cheerful blaze in our dining room fireplace. Relax for an afternoon on our glassed-in Florida Porch watching lacy snowflakes gently blanket the lawn and woods. In the Spring, see the pussy willow, iris, and ancient beds of lily of the valley bring renewed life with hope and promise for all. A sheltered harbor of gracious hospitality ... and luxury, and courtesy ...where the hours stand still with a golden glow ... and you are young again. The gentle aroma of breakfast revives fond memories of another place and time. It’s like visiting your favorite aunt’s house.
